Desco takes part in 2018 Children North East Sandcastle Challenge

On Friday 6th July Louise Pomery and Ryan Tough from Desco’s head office in Sunderland took part in the annual Sandcastle Challenge 2018, alongside 1600 local school children and fellow professionals from the built environment.

Held on the beach at South Shields, the annual event, which gives school children in the North East region the chance to swap a day in the classroom for day at the beach, is organised by charity Children North East. In teams, the children compete to build the best sandcastle around a given theme. This year’s theme was ‘Exploring the cosmos’.

Desco supported teams from Broadway Junior School in Sunderland and spent time working with the children before the day to plan and design what we were going to build. Between the two teams we decided to build a rocket ship and a solar system themed sand designs!

The day saw fantastic weather and a great team spirit from all the schools taking part, well done to the winners:

Beaconhill Primary School – Space Monkeys
Marsden Primary School – Galaxy Chocolate
St Cuthbert’s RCPrimary School – Cuthie’s Cosmic Crusaders
Ryhope Infant School – Ryhope Rockets
Gibside School: Boldly Going

We have the date in our diary for the 2019 Sandcastle Challenge and look forward to it!
