Go-ahead Given for Nottingham Retail Redevelopment

The planned £92m transformation of a dated Nottingham shopping centre is set to start following the selection of Sir Robert McAlpine as the contractor. With Desco secured as its MEP engineer, the Sir Robert McAlpine-led design and build team are on course to commence the redevelopment works at Intu Broadmarsh early this year.

The two-year redevelopment of the retail destination forms part of Nottingham City Council’s £250m planned investment into a programme of works to improve the Broadmarsh area of the city.

Planning has already been secured for the revamped city centre retail and leisure complex, which includes providing improved pedestrian routes, a new multi-screen cinema and a range of new retail, food and beverage outlets.

The refurbishment of the centre will take place whilst the shops remain open for trade. The experienced design and build team will employ similar phasing strategies, used on their other retail redevelopments, to make sure disruption is kept to a minimum.

Desco Technical Director, Paul Baker, who will be managing the mechanical and electrical design for the project, said “Desco has enjoyed a long and trusted relationship with Sir Robert McAlpine. Together, we have delivered several retail and leisure regeneration projects on behalf of Intu. We are looking forward to bringing this experience to the benefit of the Broadmarsh scheme and to helping bring to life the ambitious plans for the city centre.”
