Leatherhead Office Gets New Lease of Life

An ageing 1990s Surrey office building has undergone a spectacular facelift to transform it into a contemporary new workplace. Under its new name ‘One Springfield Drive’, the attractive development sits comfortably amongst a host of national and global corporations on the Leatherhead Office Park.

The former Kelvin House building was a joint venture with Berwick Hill Properties and LRE Capital, is barely recognisable following the extensive redevelopment. A new two-storey roof extension has been added to increase the workspace by 60%. External spaces have been improved with landscaping and two new roof terraces have been incorporated.

Desco was appointed by client Berwick Hill Properties to design the building services engineering systems for One Springfield Drive, alongside architectural colleagues Aros and structural engineers Crouch Waterfall. The construction and fit out contractor for the project was the award-winning Gilbert Ash.

Designed to British Council for Offices standards, the revamped high-specification office embraces natural daylight with its floor to ceiling windows, supplemented by low-energy LED lighting. An innovative, eye-catching vertical light wall, with colour change and abstract lighting functions, illuminates the central, feature staircase and front aspect of the building.

Desco Director Mike Vince, whose team led the design of the building’s mechanical and electrical engineering systems, commented,

“One Springfield Drive is the latest addition to Desco’s commercial office portfolio. The visible changes to the building are quite astonishing. We have also engineered the building to include some not so obvious, yet very appealing features.

As well as finding it attractive, we are confident that the future tenants of the building will be delighted with the comfortable and secure workspace that the team has created for them. In addition, the new, efficient building services will ensure that far less energy will be required to run the property than in its old condition.”
