projectNETPark Discovery Centre

locationCounty Durham, UK

Further to our previous projects on the NETPark Science and Technology Park, Desco was appointed by County Durham Development Corporation to develop the M&E design for their NET Park ‘Grow-On’ project – a development comprising two buildings with a mixture of flexible office, laboratory and clean room space, in self-contained units to accommodate small and medium sized enterprises and research groups working in the science and technology industry.

Located within NETPark’s parkland setting, the units have been designed with many sustainable credentials such as solar panels and angling the buildings away from the sun to cut down on solar gain and thus reduce the need for air conditioning and achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating under the current assessment methods.

The buildings have been designed to allow maximum flexibility to meet with the needs of high growth technology companies. This flexibility includes the sub division of the building into smaller units.

CDDC opted to use the SCAPE Framework as the delivery route for the project and subsequently Desco was novated to Willmott Dixon and we delivered the detailed design for the development. The buildings were successfully completed and handed over to the client on time and on budget.

Officially opened in early 2012 under its new name, The Discovery Centre, Desco has subsequently been appointed to undertake a tenant fit out design role on the various internal spaces within the development.
