Desco is working with developer Clouston Group on a 90000m² multi-use scheme in Newcastle City Centre. The development, behind the city’s Central Station and bounded by the Grade I listed town wall remains, is on a culturally important site and derives its name from the original workshop used by railway pioneer George Stephenson to build the Rocket and has required extensive feasibility work.

The first phase of the development comprises a 3250m2 BREEAM Excellent rated Grade A commercial office known as ‘The Rocket’ in a nod to the site’s heritage, an adjoining 360 space multi-storey car park and 250 bed four star plus standard hotel with extensive business, hospitality and conference facilities, a leisure club and swimming pool.

The high specification offices feature comfort cooling, low energy lighting, a sedum roof and generous south-facing balconies with panoramic views across the River Tyne.

Subsequent phases will include 155 residential properties, a boutique hotel, further office space, an art gallery and exhibition space, retail and restaurant facilities
