Our team was appointed to carry out the full detail design of the building services installations for the redevelopment of Virgin Atlantic’s new 22,000m² training facility in Crawley, West Sussex.

The redevelopment, from a pharmaceutical manufacturing and process facility into the prestigious new training centre, was carried out under a number of phases which included:

  • The complete decontamination and strip out of the old laboratories and processing plant,
  • Provision of a new services infrastructure and disaster recovery computer centre,
  • Creation of new warehouse, offices, restaurants and classrooms.

The final phase of the project to be completed was a new glazed feature reception area leading to a town square with café bar, hairdressing salon, auditorium, library and staff shops all accessed from the square. A new training hall with various aircraft training rigs, emergency slides and rafts, aircraft door trainers, baggage check-in desk and cock-pit mock ups allow cabin and flight crew to be trained in one area. A glazed feature wall allows visitors to view the area while maintaining the security of the space.

A further 55 training classrooms were provided along with two large atria type breakout spaces.
