New Maker and Faber offices handed over on former Vaux Brewery site
The new offices in Sunderland are part of the Riverside Development.
The new Maker and Faber offices have been completed in Sunderland, providing 157,000sq ft of Grade A office space across two buildings on the former Vaux Brewery site in the city centre, overlooking the River Wear.
The two office buildings, which Desco designed the mechanical and electrical engineering services for, are part of Sunderland’s Riverside development which is bringing more homes, workspace and jobs to Sunderland City Centre. Faber offers workspace across four floors, covering 73,033sq ft and Maker offers workspace over five floors across 83,905sq ft.
The two buildings, which sit adjacent to each other, are two of only four new-build office spaces completed outside of London this year, have been designed to promote good health and wellbeing, including the use of natural materials and colours, improvements to air quality and using an increase in natural light through featured glazing, over artificial lighting.
The all-electric buildings have achieved BREEAM Excellent standard with their variety of sustainability features which make them low-energy and Zero-Carbon. There are Photovoltaic panels on the roofs of each of the buildings and green spaces with plant enclosures on both roofs and a biodiverse seeded system.
Maker and Faber are part of the redevelopment of Sunderland City Centre which will see new accommodation, offices, the Culture House and new bridges connecting both sides of the river.
