CENE 2025 Shortlist Announced

Two projects Desco designed the M&E services for have been shortlisted across three categories in the Constructing Excellence North East Awards

The Constructing Excellence North East Awards 2025 (CENE) shortlist has been announced, and we are delighted to see that two projects we designed the M&E services for have made the list.

Beamish Football Centre and Woodham Academy are both shortlisted for awards. Beamish Football Centre has been shortlisted for two awards, Retrofit and Regeneration & Conservation, while Woodham Academy has been shortlisted for Building Project of the Year.

Beamish Football Centre saw a £1.6m upgrade to their training facilities with a new bar and function space designed.

The Retrofit category highlights projects and programmes where Constructing Excellence principle deliver better performance of an existing asset. Judges look for improved performance of the asset, use of digital through the project, the employment of innovative techniques and a measured impact of the solutions and end result including reduced carbon emissions.

The Conservation & Regeneration category also highlights projects and programmes where Constructing Excellence principle deliver better performance of an existing asset. Applicants to the category must show how they used specialist skills and techniques to ensure any works are in keeping with existing historic/ heritage features.

Woodham Academy is a new-build school funded through the Department for Education’s (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme. It was designed to minimise carbon and has a range of sustainable features including air source heat pumps, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and a biodiverse green roof. The sustainable features will help to reduce the overall running costs of the school. The school was designed to align with the Net Zero targets of the DFE.

The Building Project of the Year category celebrates inspirational projects that deliver outstanding outcomes. Judges look for projects which demonstrate the Constructing Excellence principles and align with the collaborative work they undertake with the Construction Leadership Council.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park on Friday 13th June.
