Discovery Centre

Following previous projects delivered on the NETPark Science and Technology Park, Desco was appointed by County Durham Development Corporation (CDDC) to develop the M&E design for their NET Park ‘Grow-On’ project – a development comprising two buildings, each providing approximately 1,900m2 of flexible office, laboratory and clean room space, in self-contained units to accommodate small and medium sized enterprises and research groups working in the science and technology industry.

Located within NETPark’s parkland setting, the units have been designed with many sustainable credentials such as solar panels and angling the buildings away from the sun to cut down on solar gain and thus reduce the need for air conditioning and achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating under the current assessment methods.
Each of the two storey buildings has been designed to allow maximum flexibility to meet with the needs of high growth technology companies. This flexibility allows the sub division of the building into smaller units.

CDDC opted to use the SCAPE Framework as the delivery route for the project and subsequently Desco was novated to Willmott Dixon and we delivered the detailed design for the development. The buildings were successfully completed and handed over to the client on time and on budget.
