The Halls Wolverhampton wins double at West Midlands RICS awards

The Halls took home two awards following its £38 million refurbishment.

The Halls, Wolverhampton, which originally opened in 1938, won two awards at the RICS Regional Awards, securing the Community Benefit Project awards and Refurbishments/Revitalisation Project award.

The RICS Regional Awards celebrate inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction, and infrastructure, as well as recognising the outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies involved.

Desco designed the M&E services for The Halls, which were given an extensive refurbishment totalling £38 million. The refurbishment included increasing the seat capacity across the two halls to an overall capacity of 5,400. Other improvements to the venue include bigger and better bars, more comfortable seating, more accessible viewing points, improved toilet facilities and new balconies were fitted in both halls.

The original features of the building were also retained and restored to their original condition.

The community benefit award recognises the facility’s benefit to its local community by illustrating its success through local community feedback with diversity and inclusion embedded throughout.

The refurbishment and revitalisation category honours the outstanding restoration or part restoration of a building that was no longer fit for purpose with the aim of making it more energy efficient and sustainable.

The team behind The Halls, Wolverhampton was AtkinsRéalis, Space & Place, Faithful and Gould, Furness and Wilmott Dixon Interiors.
