Nottingham Central Library
The library gives residents a new library, bookable meeting spaced and a hub for community services.
Desco designed the M&E services as part of the design team for the £10m library fit-out which was designed to create a city hub for arts, cultural, and community services and to be adaptable to future needs.
The three-storey library, built on the site of a former bus station and car park, was designed to honour Nottingham’s lace-making heritage. It has a range of facilities for the community, along with the traditional library facilities, including an immersive storytelling wall for children and different creative zones for a range of ages, ‘sensory play caves’ for children, a public café, art displays and a gaming area for teenagers.
The library also has several meeting rooms for hire that cater for small children’s groups and meetings, to space for 100 people, offering sound systems, microphones, large screens and webcam connections.
As well as meetings rooms, the library includes an exhibition space, allowing the library to offer a range of events, and a local history section, allowing visitors to look at historical photos, newspapers and archives and records.
The project is one of several large-scale projects to rejuvenate the area surrounding the Broadmarsh shopping centre and inject new interest in Nottingham City Centre.
