Throstle Rec

The development provides homes for residents with different needs, offering general needs houses, bungalows and apartments.

Desco designed the mechanical and electrical services for Throstle Rec, an affordable housing scheme in Leeds.

The six-acre development provides homes for residents with different needs and offers natural play areas, dog walking areas, landscaping and sustainable drainage features to promote biodiversity. The development is made up of 176 new homes which includes 100 general needs houses, 16 accessible bungalows and 60 extra care apartments.

As well as affordable housing for residents, the development also benefits the wider community through public open spaces, a recreation ground and an area suitable for leisure activities.

Throstle Rec is equipped with an underground district heating system, providing properties with energy-efficient heating and hot water in a bid to support the council’s plans to tackle the climate emergency through new energy-efficient, affordable housing options. Each house also has off-street parking and 120 electrical vehicle charging points were installed on the development for homes and public use.

The development is the first major new council housing development in 30 years and is part of the Council’s House Growth Programme which plans to deliver 1,500 new council homes over the next 5 years.
