Desco trainee named Apprentice of the Year 2025
Trainee Mechanical Engineer Jessica Selkirk was awarded the title by Leeds Beckett University School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing
As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2025, Leeds Beckett University School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing has announced the winners of their Degree Apprenticeship prizes and we are delighted to share that our own Jessica Selkirk, one of our Trainee Mechanical Engineers, has been named Apprentice of the Year.
Jess is studying a BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering at Leeds Beckett University, whilst working at Desco and gaining real-life industry experience. Alongside her studies and work, she is also an active member of the CIBSE Young Engineers Network (YEN) committee, named Education Liaison for the YEN North East this year.
She is often found supporting her colleagues, work experience placements and PlanBEE students, sharing her skills and knowledge with others.
Jess was nominated by her Degree Apprenticeship Assessor Matthew Diggle who said: “Jessica has demonstrated excellent progress on her degree, consistently achieving high grades.
“Additionally, Jessica has received positive feedback from her employer, Desco. Her work has been consistently praised for its quality and impact.
“Overall, Jessica Selkirk exemplifies the qualities of a dedicated and capable BSE degree apprentice.”
Jess joined Desco in September 2022 as part of our Graduate programme, after spending four months with the company during her time on PlanBEE.
