First phase of Martin House Big Build completes

The first phase saw a new children’s wing be built offering more space for themselves and families.

The first phase of the £21.9m project for the Martin House Hospice centre in Yorkshire, which saw the construction of a brand-new children’s wing, is complete.

Desco were responsible for the M&E services design for the centre, which provides respite and end-of-life care, will give patients more comfort and care, as well as offering support for children, young people, and their families in bright, welcoming spaces with advance care facilities. The wing includes a lounge, family dining area, an art room, enchanted forest playroom, kitchen, bedrooms for children, parents and families and accessible bathrooms.

Each of the nine woodland-themed bedrooms includes piped oxygen, integrated hoists and access to the private garden, offering a “home from home” feeling, but with clinical facilities designed into the walls and ceilings.

The rooms in the wing are also larger to provide more space for medical equipment and offer comfortable spaces for families staying together.
