The state-of-the-art science facility, BIOS, which Desco designed the mechanical and electrical engineering services for, brings multiple departments together giving students the opportunity to learn using OSCE suites, operating theatres and immersive suites. Students studying subjects including anatomy, imaging, microbiology, chemistry, earth sciences and food sciences, use the facility which is part of the university’s ‘School of Health and Life Sciences’.
Teesside BIOS was the city’s first BREEAM Outstanding build, which will be net zero carbon in operation.
The awards showcase the excellence in the built environment across England and Wales and play an important role in recognising and inspiring the high performance in the industry.
The project team included Wates Group, Teesside University, Summers Inman, Faulkner Browns Architect and Scape.
